Indianapolis — The UConn men's basketball team, left out of the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 2007 season, landed a spot in the 32-team National Invitation Tournament.
The Huskies (17-15) will play Northeastern (20-12) in a first-round game Tuesday night at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs at 7 p.m. The winner of that game plays the Quinnipiac-Virginia Tech winner in the second round. UConn last played in the NIT in 2001.
Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse and Duke were given No. 1 seeds for the NCAA tournament announced Sunday. Play starts Tuesday with an opening-round game, and the tournament goes into full swing Thursday.
Syracuse, the Big East regular-season champ, got a No. 1 seed despite heading into the tournament with its first two-game losing streak of the season.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
