Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun reported today that their slot-machine winnings declined significantly last month.
Foxwoods, including MGM Grand at Foxwoods, won $51.6 million at its slots, an 11.1 percent decline over February 2009. Mohegan Sun won $58 million, down 7.7 percent.
Bad weather throughout the Northeast was partly to blame for Mohegan Sun's downturn, Mitchell Etess, the casino's president and chief executive officer, said.
Mohegan Sun forwarded $15.1 million to the state Division of Special Revenue. Foxwoods made a payment of $13.4 million.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
