Defending champion UConn, as expected, was named No. 1 seed in the East Region for the upcoming NCAA women's basketball tournament and will face No. 16 Southern University in the first round Sunday at 12:16 p.m. (ESPN2) in Norfolk, Va.
The Huskies (33-0) head into the tournament with a record 72-game winning streak. Southern (23-8) won the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship on Saturday with a 60-47 win over Alabama State.
The other No. 1 seeds were Stanford (Sacramento Region), Nebraska (Kansas City Region) and Tennessee (Memphis). If all four No. 1 seeds make it to the Final Four in San Antonio, UConn and Tennessee would meet in the semifinals on April 4 at the Alamodome.
Hartford, coached by former UConn great Jen Rizzotti, received an at-large bid. The Hawks are seeded 10th in the Memphis Region and will play No. 7 LSU on Saturday at Duke.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
