Old Saybrook - Youth and Family Services has hired Heather McNeil as its new executive director and Susan Consoli as its new social services coordinator.

The two replace retired longtime director Larry Freundlich and coordinator Joanne Messner.

McNeil, of Old Saybrook, was most recently supervisor of the Outpatient Behavioral Health Services for United Community and Family Services in New London, Groton and Colchester. Consoli, also of Old Saybrook, has worked as a counselor for Youth and Family Services and most recently was a counselor at Connections Counseling and Wellness Center in Waterford.

First Selectman Michael Pace proposed reorganizing Youth and Family Services late last year following the two employees' retirements. But he scratched the idea after employees and residents alike voiced their opposition to the proposed changes, which would have included combining the director and coordinator positions into one and moving youth programs under the police department's purview.
