Why waste time and energy on tea party?

Why is the news media - The Day included - so obsessed with the tea party movement? The movement, which in actual numbers is fairly small, is basically rural, old white people, mostly men, who don't want to give up the America of the 1950s.
The Day should wake up. Times are changing. Our nation is becoming more diverse every day. Why don't you cover more stories that involve or interest Latinos or African-Americans? Why don't you pay more attention to the concerns of young people?
I am sick of hearing about the tea party movement. They represent the dying gasp of the old order. If The Day is worried about enticing young people to read the newspaper (as it should be), it needs to look forward instead of backward.
That might force The Day to become more - gasp! - liberal.
