I have several issues with the recent letter titled "Justice Roberts not very judicious," published March 13, but since my space here is limited I'll hit the high points.
It was incredibly bad form and blatant partisan politics for the president to use the State of the Union to comment on a Supreme Court ruling - something I've not seen in 35 years of watching these speeches.
There was no bipartisan support of President Obama's tasteless attack during the speech. What people heard was the liberal Democrats applauding their amateur party leader, making a schoolyard bully attack in a forum where dissent is not allowed.
It is ironic that the letter writer is complaining about Justice Roberts standing up for his reputation and image. That is the exact issue the court ruled on. The ruling allows companies to defend themselves publicly when vilified and attacked, and not be censured by government for doing so.
I encourage those only using The Day and legacy media for news to research the ruling and check the text of President Obama's speech. He was wrong and misrepresented the issue at hand. Justice Roberts was correct and showed the spine to say it.
