While the images of the recent Willetts Avenue apartment fire in New London are still fresh in our minds, we should speak to our friends and family about renters' insurance.

I was in a fire years ago and lost everything and it is so expensive to replace a home. Insurance is relatively inexpensive and lessens the impact of the devastation.

We should also remember what good work the Red Cross does at home. It helped me with my first month's rent and with replacing my clothes after my own apartment fire.

Volunteer or donate to help others in need. It will make you feel better, too.
