Tonucci, Dubay lead Pointers (5-1) over Team Ontario, 9-1

Vero Beach, Fla. - Tyler Tonucci scattered four hits over six innings as UConn-Avery Point ended its southern baseball swing with a 9-1 victory over Team Ontario of Canada on Monday.

Tonucci (2-0) walked three and struck out seven for the Pointers (5-1), losing his shutout bid in the fifth.

Dave Dubay led Avery Point's 11-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, while Jake Matuszak added two hits and two RBI and Kyle Wilson had a pair of singles, scored a run and drove in another.

In other games:

• Mitchell College ended its spring trip by splitting a doubleheader against Manhattanville College in Fort Pierce, Fla. The Mariners (2-5) lost the opener 18-10 before capturing the second game 13-12. In game two, Griswold's Taylor Grabill hit a grand slam to highlight an eight-run fourth inning. Ledyard's Andrew Langlais added an RBI single that inning while Jeff Perillo doubled and tripled. Perillo also went 3-for-4 in the opener.

Honors

• Nine student-athletes at Coast Guard Academy were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Winter All-Academic team. Honored were junior Mike Carman (men's swimming), junior Jare Hylander (men's swimming), junior Eric Schwartz (men's swimming), sophomore Jeff Mistrick (men's swimming), senior Sarah Hohnstadt (women's swimming), senior Ariana Pourmonir (women's swimming), sophomore Katie Cappetta (women's swimming), junior Jessica Anderson (women's basketball) and sophomore Rebekah Seifer (women's basketball).

Honorees must have earned a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 after the 2009 fall semester, achived second-year academic status and been a varsity athlete for the entire season.
