Oh Lordy, I sure hope that Katrina Gathers, the usually sensible writer, is not going to turn into "Mommy, dearest" now that she is a parent. ("Good parenting means creative discipline," March 12.)
So she has a relative who has put the fear of the police into her child. Just what the men in blue need. More bad PR.
The mom with the bed-wetter child desperately needs education quickly, before she stigmatizes her son. Bed wetting is a sleep disorder in which the person - it can be an adult - falls into the deepest stage of sleep too quickly, and remains in it , unable to be roused by the body's normal indicators of a full bladder. The muscles relax and allow the urine out.
The child probably is so uncomfortable with a sleepover at the relative's home, fearing embarrassment, that he doesn't sleep deeply at those times. How is washing sheets by hand in the bathtub supposed to cure a sleep disorder? Mom needs to discuss this with a pediatrician rather than a reporter.
There is help available for that young boy.
