I attended a small open-mike fundraiser Friday night at Wheeler Library in North Stonington for Haitian earthquake victims. I brought my two young daughters and other family members and we had a great time.

I want to commend Wheeler High School students for their fine performances, their thoughtfulness in putting this event together and their willingness to allow little kids to participate.

Library Director Amy Kennedy also deserves special acknowledgement for providing an after-hours venue for the students. It pleases me to know that this spirit and kindness is alive and well.
