Kids, Fox just announced next week's theme for the Top 11: Teen idols! Right! I KNOW!!!
Now, I have no idea what the Idol definition of teen idol is, and they aren't saying, but it sort of boggles the mind: Shaun Cassidy? Leif Garrett? New Kids on the Block? BRITNEY SPEARS?
Oh. My. Gravy.
* * * * * * * *
And so Lacey Brown leaves the Idol stage, and heads directly for a job at the Clinique counter at the Dallas Nordstroms.
Really, kids, was this a surprise to anyone except Lacey's pastor parents? I don't think so. What was a surprise was the return of the dreaded Judges' Save, which, if you recall, gave us one extra week of Matt Giraud last year. Ugh. The panel can use it up until the final five are chosen. Last night, they wisely (and unanimously) took a pass on saving Miss Brown.
The bottom three (it is sad when the Silver Stools of Salvation from Top 12 turn into the Silver Stools of Shame) were also not surprising, as Tim Urban's abs and Paige Miles' sore throat joined Lacey.
(Let's pause here for a minute to take note of the off-the-hook hair accoutrements the girls sported last night, including the hand-knitted thingie that Siobhan was strapped into. These girls are crafting their brains out in their spare time. Or shopping at Bizarre Bazaars.)
I was a teeny bit surprised that Tim was able to stagger out of the bottom three (dude needs to learn to stay steady on his feet during times of stress), leaving Paige and Lacey to cling to each other. I thought Tim's Under My Thumb was weaker than Paige's Honky Tonk Woman, but Paige does not have the "crush" factor that Tim has, so it guess it ultimately makes sense. It's not really about the singing, after all.
And then Lacey was out (danger, Will Robinson! That mascara is about to blow!), and ta-dah! Judges' Save! and she's going to sing The Story, which the judges liked previously, but we all knew it wasn't going to be enough and poof! she's gone and we will never think of her again.
What did you think?
