It's only right to take toxins out of toys

Kudos to The Day and Ted Mann for the article titled "State lawmakers pushing for ban on cadmium in products for kids," published March 13. Truth is, all those slick lobbyists for the Toy Industry Association should get the smackdown.
Let's get real about federal limits for toxic products those lobbyists would rather you didn't know about. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency already has far too much on its hands to regulate U.S. industry. For example, under the terms of the Toxic Substances Control Act, the EPA can't require companies to prove the safety of their products. It leaves them to police themselves. Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse!
Connecticut should take the lead in passing the legislation. And companies like LEGO should welcome reforms that are healthier for the children who'd benefit.
