Plainfield – Six stores were cited by police on Saturday for selling alcohol to a minor, part of an undercover operation by the Plainfield Police Department and the Department of Consumer Protection's Liquor Control Division.
On Saturday, a 19-year-old volunteer, who had been trained by the Governor's Prevention Partnership, tried to buy beer at nine local stores. Six of them sold him alcohol, police allege, and will face administrative action before the Liquor Control Commission.
Rob's Wine and Spirits and Plainfield Northeast Wine & Spirits in Plainfield, Carol's Package Store in Central Village, Wauregan Package Store in Wauregan, and Marie's Lake Street Spirits and Country Farms Convenience Store in Moosup were cited in the sting.
Funding for the police officers involved in the operation was provided by Northeast Communities Against Substance Abuse, which provides grants to stop underage drinking.
