Minneapolis - Coast Guard Academy's Kim Shadwick broke her own school record and placed 10th in the 1,650 freestyle at the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships over the weekend at the University of Minnesota.

Shadwick, a junior making her first appearance at the national meet, finished in 17:09.23, easily breaking her old record of 17:13.07 set during the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Championships.

Shadwick, the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year, also placed 17th in the 200 freestyle (1:52.77) and 24th in the 500 freestyle (5:02.91).

College baseball

• John Andreoli had three hits, including a two-run home run, as UConn routed Northeastern, 12-1, in a game called after seven and a half innings due to fog. Pat Butler pitched six innings, scattering five hits and allowing no runs. Kevin Vance added two hits and four RBI for UConn (11-6).

College sailing

• The Connecticut College women placed fifth out of 18 teams in the St. Mary's College Intersectional Regatta over the weekend. Second year skipper Bitsy Whipple and junior Katrina Salk paced the Camels with a fourth-place score of 66 points in the B Division. In the A Division, Maggie Shea and Kelly Arabia totaled 99 points and finished ninth.

College honors

• Mitchell College junior infield Jeff Perillo was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the week while freshman catcher Eric Pesino was named NECC Rookie of the Week. Perillo batted .625 with five RBI and four runs scored in two games while Pesino was 1-for-3 in one game but drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in a 13-12 victory over Manhattanville in Florida.

• Coast Guard senior captain Chris Pappe and sophomore Greg Mitchell were named the NEWMAC men's doubles team of the week. Pappe and Mitchell won their only match of the week, a 9-0 victory at No. 1 doubles against Johnson & Wales.

• Coast Guard sophomore Hayley Feindel was named NEWMAC softball Pitcher of the Week. Feindel, the 2009 NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year, 4-0 with a 0.84 ERA and fired a no-hitter vs. Castleton State on Saturday with 13 strikeouts. She pitched 25 innings, allowed 16 hits, walked four and struck out 36 for CGA (9-3), which is ranked 19th nationally.
