Norwich – The head of the bronze statue stolen from the Yantic Cemetery and cut into pieces has been recovered by Willimantic Police, Norwich police said today.

Someone turned in the head to Willimantic Police on Tuesday, said Lt. Stephany Bakoulis, and it was brought to Norwich police this afternoon.

Norwich police confirmed this afternoon that the head is part of the statue from Osgood's grave and that it is the last remaining piece. The statue had been cut into several pieces, most of which were sold for scrap to the Willimantic Waste Co. The head had been missing until Tuesday's recovery.

Police made two arrests earlier this month and recovered several pieces of the bronze statue of a kneeling woman, stolen from the Sarah Osgood grave in the Yantic Cemetery on Feb. 11.

Police expect further arrests, but not imminently, Bakoulis said.
