New London cleanup needs a backyard look

I recently read in The Day that New London will start a cleanup campaign that will take six months. ("New London prepares for citywide cleanup," March 20.) Wow. I was elated to read this as it is long overdue.
The trouble is, will they just check the front porch? What about the backyard? People often put things in their backyards as they don't need to look at old mattresses, junk cars and other junk from their porch. You need more than a drive-by look to check and make it a good cleanup. Those backyards draw rats and rodents and look terrible.
I've given pictures to officials, and still have some, of backyards within the city that need attention. I've also called and nothing has been done. I wait and hope that this time it's different.
It's a big job to check backyards, but I say it's about time. Get out of the car and take a good look. Then New London can take pride in its looks. It is a long time coming.
