Tips for safe and respectful hiking:


  • Sturdy footwear is a must.

  • Bring water, even when it’s winter or just a short hike.

  • Bring a snack or lunch.

  • Always carry out what you carry in.

  • It's often a good idea to wear a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent containing DEET to deter ticks and mosquitoes.

  • Tell someone where you're going.
  • Stay on marked trails.

  • Take only photographs; leave only footprints.

  • Print out trail map at home and bring it along, Plan your route.

  • Do not disturb archeological or historical sites or wildlife.

  • Keep pets under control. Bring a plastic bag to pack out pet waste.
