If you're a local musician or fan, and you're not playing a gig in New London Saturday - or even if you're at the WE ROCK! Festival at Hygienic Art Park - find a way to spend a few minutes at Hanafin's Irish Pub. You must see and hear Davin McCoy, a stunning musician from Georgia. He's a stylistic sponge: vocally, he channels Joe Cocker, Sam Cooke and Jimmie Dale Gilmore; musically, he's at home in the Deep South permutations of soul, gospel, blues and rock; lyrically, he sproings from Randy Newman to Stevie Forbert to Jason Mraz. As a listen to his "So Good, So Cruel" CD demonstrates, though, McCoy is very much his own dude. Among the pals guesting on the new album are members of Widespread Panic, the Rolling Stones, and the Allman Brothers. He plays at 9:30 Saturday at the pub at 310 State St., New London; $5; (860) 437-9724, davinmccoy.com.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
