Waterford - The Freedom Riders USA and several local veterans organizations are sponsoring the eighth annual Ahn's Memorial Run, Vets Helping Vets, on Aug. 15.
The run, which will be hosted by Preston VFW Post 9452, is in memory U.S. Marine Cpl. Kemaphoom "Ahn" Chanawongse, a Waterford native who was killed in Iraq in 2003.
The Freedom Riders USA sponsors this event to honor his memory and the memory of all of Connecticut's fallen heroes. The group is looking for people to support the event as a co-sponsor, provide any suitable cash donation or donated item to use as a raffle or winning hand prize.
The funds will be used to supplement Ahn's scholarship fund. In addition this year, Chanawongse's family and friends requested that 75 percent of the funds raised go to a cause that helps veterans in the region. The cause chosen is the veterans transitional home in New London, which provides temporary housing for homeless veterans of southeastern Connecticut.
Contact the Freedom Riders USA @ freedomridersusa.org or TRComfort@yahoo.com, (860) 961-9253. Donations can be sent to: Ahn's Memorial Fund, 5 Burningtree Drive, Groton, CT 06340. The Connecticut charity registration number is 53844.
