Mystic - St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mystic is holding an ecumenical dinner later this month to benefit the victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake that rocked Haiti.
Attendees will learn to play dominoes, which is a popular game in Haiti, and dine on vegetarian and Haitian appetizers, entrees, and desserts, organizers said. Through a free-will offering, the dinner will raise money for the children of St. Luc's School in Mercery, which is located 35 miles west of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince.
St. Mark's Dinner and Dominoes for Haiti dinner will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21 at the church.
This is the third year St. Mark's,
located at 15 Pearl St. in Mystic, has been raising funds for the salaries of the teachers at St. Luc's, an elementary school for boys and girls.
In early April, approximately 140 students who attended St. Luc's before the earthquake were able to return to the school and resume classes.
