Montville - Fire companies from across town and the surrounding area were called to a structure fire at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 47 Park St. Ext. in the Uncasville section of town.
There were no injuries in the fire, which destroyed the single-family, ranch-style home. A dog is unaccounted for, police said. The fire was under investigation.
Shortly after firefighters arrived, the roof caved in. Windows were blown out and smoke billowed from the openings. Flames engulfed the back of the house, and the front door appeared melted.
Residents in this semi-secluded neighborhood off Route 32 gathered in the street and watched.
The homeowner was inside when the fire started in the kitchen, police said.
Mohegan Fire Department Deputy Chief Corey Gaetano said firefighters had problems with the water supply when they first arrived, and tankers were called in from several surrounding towns. At least 10 fire companies responded, he said.
Fire officials believe at least two people were displaced by fire. The Red Cross was assisting the homeowners.
The 1,600-square-foot house is owned by Karen and Guy O'Brien, according to visionappraisal.com. The home, built in 1962, is appraised at $227,710, according to the website.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
