I read an article recently about the United States sending representatives to the memorial on the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
In the article, the secretary-general of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Associations asks that the U.S. apologize for using the bomb to end the war with Japan. Instead, Secretary-General Terumi Tanaka should ask his government to apologize to his country and the bombing survivors for:
• Beginning the war with a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.
• Refusing to surrender at least twice before the A-bombs were dropped.
The U.S. did not start World War II. It is estimated that had we invaded Japan, at least 1 million American casualties would have resulted.
I would next ask Mr. Tanaka to have all Japanese read "Tears of Darkness," a book about his countrymen and how they treated the American and Philippine prisoners during the Bataan Death March.
