North Stonington politics has done it again. The Board of Education seat was a prime example of how politics play into the decision-making of this town. It appears that some political party members were attempting to stack a board for their own personal agendas. ("N. Stonington selectman quits party in dispute over board vacancy," Aug. 17.)
A board needs to be equal, fair and impartial. Nobody should be influenced to make a decision that is not his or her own. An example is how Selectman Bill Briscoe, a Democrat, was attacked by his own party for standing up publicly and expressing his opinion about the vacant seat.
Bill Briscoe demonstrated the qualities of a true leader. He was not influenced by others and expresses and makes his own decisions.
Mr. Briscoe has since become unaffiliated.
Editor's note: The letter writer, a Republican, was named to the vacant schol board seat on Tuesday.
