Today is Coast Guard Day at Fort Trumbull State Park, and that means a few things. It means the barque Eagle and the cutter Morro Bay will be at Pier 7 so visitors can tour the two Coast Guard vessels. It means a Coast Guard helicopter will land on the south lawn so people can explore that bit of impressive machinery. And it means the Coast Guard will give a 3 p.m. concert at the head of the Fishing Pier. Coast Guard Day runs from noon to 5 p.m., and admission is free. As the Friends of Fort Trumbull point out, the historic exhibits in the Visitors Center are open, along with, yes, the Gift Shop. (There is a fee to visit the Visitors Center and the Fort - $6 adults, $2 ages 6-12, free to kids 5 and under.) You can call the park, which is at 90 Walbach St. in New London, at (860) 444-7591.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
