Griswold - Let the drawdowns begin … maybe.
Residents along Hopeville and Glasgo ponds might receive some good news in the coming weeks from the state Department of Environmental Protection about their request to draw down the water bodies, making it easier to clear invasive plants from the ponds.
First Selectman Philip Anthony Jr. said he received the call from a DEP official on Wednesday saying that the drawdowns were good to go.
Friday, DEP officials said they received the request and are still in the evaluation stage.
Still, Anthony maintains it's just a matter of time before a final OK is mailed out. There is a catch. Anthony said Glasgo Pond will be the first to have its levels dropped and that could happen this winter. Because they are interconnected, Hopeville and Glasgo ponds will have to be done together and fisheries officials need another year to study a potentially rare kind of fish found in the ponds, Anthony said.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
