The Visiting Nurses of Southeastern Connecticut are getting an early start this year on its annual flu vaccine clinics.

The Waterford-based organization has announced that it has received two shipments of vaccine that includes protection against the H1N1 pandemic flu virus as well as the flu viruses that are most likely to cause illness this year. Flu season can begin as early as October, although the season typically peaks in January or later.

VNA clinics will begin Sept. 16 and continue through Oct. 22. The vaccine is approved for people six months of age and older. Medicare and most health insurance covers the cost of vaccination; for those paying themselves, the fee is $38. People coming to the clinics are asked to bring Medicare and insurance cards and wear a short-sleeved blouse.

For information, call (860) 444-1111 or visit: www.vnasc.org.
