A second "open house" will be held at the former Griswold Airport site, now owned by Madison, this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
A decade-long battle to secure the future of the land was finally settled earlier this year, making the former Griswold Airport site property of the town, subsequently property of the people (see related story and video).
For the second "open house," Patrick Comins, the Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon Connecticut, will conduct a tour of the land and the coastal forest starting at 10 a.m. Comins has been involved with preservation of the land since the '90s and is exceedingly knowledgeable about Connecticut birds and birds who use the Hammonasset area as a stopping point during migration South for the winter.
Sandy Breslin, the Director of Governmental Affairs at Audubon Connecticut, the Madison Park Development Committee, town selectmen, and the Trust for Public Land members are all expected to join visitors for the Sept. 11 "open house" event.
Madison Park Development Committee press release stated, "The tour of the Griswold parcel will show you the significance of the decision by the majority of Madison's citizens to save this unique, beautiful and environmentally sensitive 42 acres, and appreciate the wisdom of our fellow citizens in its purchase."
More than one-hundred people came to see and walk the land for the first "open house," which took place Aug. 28.
