UConn will be without tailback/return specialist Robbie Frey and offensive left tackle Jimmy Bennett on Friday night when the Huskies open their Big East Conference season at Rutgers.
Coach Randy Edsall said Frey had arthroscopic knee surgery Monday morning and will be lost for two to three weeks. Bennett, who made his first career start on Saturday against Vanderibilt, suffered a hand injury during pregame warmups. He will have surgery on Thursday, and be lost for four to five weeks, Edsall said.
The Big East also announced Monday that UConn cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson has been named Defensive Player of the Week. Wreh-Wilson, a sophomore, returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown, had a 24-yard fumble return and had five tackles during the 40-21 win over Vandy.
