Henniker, N.H. - A 21-year-old East Lyme man died late Friday night when the car he was riding in struck a tree in Henniker, N.H.
Dana M. Poole, who graduated in 2007 from East Lyme High School, where he played football and lacrosse, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Poole was a junior at the New England College in Henniker, N.H., where he was majoring in business economics.
Police said that the driver, Matthew Kelleher, 22, of Ashland, Mass., lost control on a curve, veered off the road and struck the tree.
Police said the impact broke the car in two.
Kelleher was trapped in the wreckage.
After he was extricated by firefighters, he was taken to Concord Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday.
Police said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
