Gaylord Specialty Healthcare (GSH) President and CEO James J. Cullen and GSH Medical Director of Rehabilitation Dr. David Rosenblum, accept a $10,000 check from M.J. Petretto, principal, Retirement Planning Group, LLC, and head of the M.J. Petretto Foundation, and her nephew Jesse Tramanto, a spinal cord injury survivor and GSH patient. These proceeds from the first annual M.J. Petretto Golf Tournament will help to purchase and install assistive technology environmental control units in the spinal cord injury unit. These units allow patients to perform simple tasks, such as turning on and off lights, switching on a fan, or selecting a television channel-acts that most of us take for granted, but those with severe injuries cannot do alone. These units allow patients more independence in their day-to-day life, giving them a sense of control and self worth crucial to recovery.
The M.J. Petretto Foundation's mission is to help fund local organizations that support education health and quality of life to build stronger Connecticut communities. The Gaylord Spinal Cord Injury Program provides long-term, acute care and rehabilitation to patients whose case complexity cannot be accommodated in ordinary rehabilitation settings.
