North Stonington — A Rhode Island man died late Monday night after he was involved in a serious car accident on Interstate 95 south in the area of Exit 92.
Police said that Ronald Costa, 67, of Charlestown, was in his vehicle stopped in the right travel lane with no lights on in the area of the Boom Bridge Road overpass.
Police said a second vehicle driven by Gwendolyn Neri, 46, of Clinton, was also driving in the right lane of travel when she struck the rear of Costa's car.
Costa's car rolled over and came to a rest on its left side. He had to be extricated from his vehicle and transported to Westerly Hospital, where he died.
Neri and two of her passengers were taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the accident remains under investigation.
The accident disrupted traffic in the area for more than two hours.
