Killingly - Chanel Johnson had 18 points, nine steals and six rebounds and New London High School opened its season with a 46-34 win over Killingly in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division girls' basketball game on Friday.
Lexus Harris added 13 points and Tamia DeBarros-Cannon had six points and 12 rebounds for the Whalers.
Devin Hill had 18 points and 23 rebounds for Killingly (0-2, 0-1).
In other games:
• Kayla McAvoy had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Old Saybrook won its first game of the season, 56-45 over Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Kelly Ratchford had 17 points and five assists and Taylor Beck had nine points and six steals for the Rams (1-1), who trailed by three heading into the fourth quarter. Valley is 0-2.
• Sonia Woods scored 16 points and Nikki Strizzi added nine points in Old Lyme's 61-34 loss to Portland in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 0-2. Kelly Coleman had 22 points for Portland (2-0).
• Angelica Davis scored eight points and Jayne Morris added seven to lead Grasso Tech past Norwich Tech, 27-18. The Eagles are 1-1. Nicole Gressley had seven points for Norwich Tech (0-2).
• Ashley Espinosa scored 14 points and Putnam defeated Wheeler, 34-30. Ashley Souza led Wheeler (1-1) with 12 points. Putnam is 1-0.
• Shelby Grauer scored a team-high 15 points in Holy Family's 47-27 loss to Ellis Tech in the Constitution State Conference. Sarah Brodeur led Ellis Tech (1-0) with 15 points. Holy Family is 1-1.
Boys' basketball
• Ben Mann had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead St. Thomas More to a 70-52 win over Falmouth Academy. Derrin McKnight-Carter had 11 points and Thomas Whipple added 10 for St. Thomas More (4-1).
• Drew Watson had 10 points and a team-high 16 rebounds in The Williams School's 65-52 loss to Rocky Hill (R.I.) Peter Schavoir paced the Blues (0-3) with 13 points, while Oliver Sherman had 11 and Rashad Young 10.
Men's basketball
• Andre Drummond had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead St. Thomas More to a 65-54 win over Northfield Mount Hermon. Damion Lee added 18 points for the Chancellors (7-1).
H.S. swimming
• Freshman Samantha Linhares won the 100 breaststroke (1:20.18) and 200 individual medley (2:34.03) and sophomore Marissa Lynch took first in the 100 freestyle (1:06.46) and 100 backstroke (1:14.48) to lead Williams past Lincoln (R.I.), 47-46. Linhares, Lynch, Andrea Goldstein and Catie Beggins combined to win the 200 freestyle relay while Beggins also won the 50 freestyle.
Women's hockey
• Connecticut College scored four goals in a span of three minutes, 52 seconds, in the second period in a 5-3 win over Salve Regina. Kelsey Kirker scored the game-winning goal and Olivia Farrell had a goal and an assist while Katelyn Driscoll added two assists for the Camels (4-4).
