Millstone security lapse considered 'very low' significance

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has found a security lapse initially deemed of "greater than very low" security significance at the Millstone nuclear power station instead warrants a "very low" status.

Millstone's owner, Dominion, successfully argued that the issue discovered during a Sept. 28 inspection was not as significant as first thought, though it was a violation, said NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan.

NRC officials declined to specify the nature of the security issue or explain its significance but said the problems were corrected immediately the day of the inspection. Details remain confidential, Sheehan said.
