Connecticut Sun guard Anete Jekabsone-Zogota told www.parsportu.lv, a website from her native Latvia, that she is not going to play in the WNBA this summer.

Sun officials could not be reached for comment.

Jekabsone-Zogota, 27, played two years for Connecticut. She began last season as a starter, but injured her right knee on June 27 and required arthroscopic surgery.

Jekabsone-Zogota returned with five games left in the season, and Connecticut lost 11 of 16 games without her. She nearly left the team during her 2009 rookie season as she grew homesick, but stayed and improved as the season progressed.

The loss of Jekabsone-Zogota leaves the Sun without one of their best passers and shooters. She averaged 37.5-percent from the 3-point line.

Jekabsone-Zogota was the 2007 FIBA Europe Player Of the Year.
