Storrs – UConn’s Robbie Frey, a valuable special teams performer and the favorite to replace Jordan Todman at tailback, announced Tuesday that he will not return for his final season of eligibility.
“This is a personal and life decision for me,” Frey said in a statement released by the university.
Frey will graduate in May with a history and political science degree. He is expected to enroll at a Division II school closer to his home in Lehighton, Pa., where he can attend graduate school and play football.
Frey would have had a fifth year of eligiblity for the Huskies after redshirting in 2007. This season he rushed for 389 yards on 75 carries and scored four touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in the Huskies’ Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma.
