The Griswold Board of Selectmen chose four firms to submit proposals for the multi-phase Streetscape revitalization plan. While still "extremely" preliminary, the project is planned to get underway as soon as this spring/summer. As the four chosen firms present plans and potential costs, the selectmen will review and determine what avenue (excuse the pun) they'll take.
Selectman Steve Mikutel said the town needs to come up with a plan that makes Jewett City stand out.
"We want to not only revitalize but to give [the area] a distinct character, a brand they call it," Mikutel said at Tuesday's special meeting. "When people come to Griswold and Jewett City, we want them to know they're in Jewett City, that we have something distinctive here. It's all about revitalization of downtown, drawing people downtown and making it a destination."
Business owners and residents of the area are obviously most impacted by whatever direction the selectmen take, and it's clearly a multi-faceted process. What would you like to see done? Considering budget (which will depend on grants) and the needs of the town, what is a realistic goal for this major project?
