Retiring Coast Guard Academy leader to head military school

New London - The U.S. Coast Guard Academy superintendent will become the next president of Fork Union Military Academy.

Rear Adm. J. Scott Burhoe, who has been the superintendent since January 2007, is scheduled to retire July 1 after more than three decades as an officer. He begins leading the military academy July 18.

The military academy, in Fork Union, Va., is a college preparatory, Christian, military boarding school for young men in grades 6 through 12 and postgraduates. Burhoe went to high school in Virginia and earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
