College roundup: T-More reaches semis of national prep tourney

Drummond leads Chancellors over Princeton Day, 89-51

New Haven - Andre Drummond had 13 points and eight rebounds as fourth-seeded St. Thomas More beat No. 5 Princeton Day Academy (Md.), 89-51, at the National Prep Championship tournament on Tuesday.

T-More will play No. 1 Hargrave Military Academy in today's semifinal round at 11 a.m. The winner plays in tonight's final at 7:30 p.m. Albertus Magnus is the tourney host.

Jarell Byrd had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Chancellors (28-7) and Whis Grant and Adam Jones each scored 13 points.

Baseball

• Stanley Paul walked with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, forcing home Dave Dubay, to give Avery Point a 5-4 win over Lefleche (Quebec).

St. Bernard's Ryan Brahm had three hits and two RBI for the Pointers (3-0) and Paul had two hits, including a two-run triple.

In Avery Point's second game of the day, Yuta Okazaki had two hits and three runs to give the Pointers a 10-2 win over Sauk Valley CC of Dixon, Ill.

Justin Tacinelli pitched a nine-hitter with two strikeouts and a walk and Paul added two hits, three RBI and a run. Also, Eric Stenger had two hits and three RBI.

Softball

• Mitchell dropped two games at the Rebel Spring Games, 4-0 to Geneva and 3-0 to Bluffton at Kissimmee, Fla. New London's Stacey Suplicki singled in the second game for Mitchell (0-4).

On Monday, Mitchell was beaten by Emmanuel (9-1) and Catholic (15-2). Jen Bordonaro had three hits in the two games, including a triple, while Nikki Hoxie and Brittany Zaccaria each drove in runs.

Men's lacrosse

• East Lyme graduate Derek Marks won his debut as Mitchell College coach as the Mariners defeated Thiel College 10-7 at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

Waterford's Adam Grillo scored four goals for Mitchell while three freshmen - Waterford's Shane Sullivan, Erik Vasquez and Demetre Lyras - added two goals apiece.
