Not that you should necessarily need another reason to support a good cause, but this one includes wine!
Sunday night's benefit for the Chikumbuso Women and Orphans Project will be held at the Jonathan Edwards Winery at 74 Chester Maine Road, North Stonington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A cool $20 will get you in the door, a glass of wine and light refreshments, and will go towards the Chikumbuso Community Study Center and Library.
The just-created library is the only one in a slum of more than 100,000 people, organizer Sabrina Buehler said. She just came back from a month-long visit to the project, in Zambia, the third time she's gone. Buehler will present pictures and stories from her trip, and will have baskets and bracelets weaved by the widows for sale.
"100 percent of the profits goes back to the project," she said.
In addition, Dan Holdridge, a local resident, will talk about his experience surviving the 9/11 terrorist attacks while working at the Pentagon. Holdridge wrote "Pentagon Prayers" and has spoken around the country to different groups about that day.
All in all, it should be a great event and it benefits a good cause.
