Flamingos have arrived

Norwich School Superintendent Abby Dolliver sent me this photo just before Monday's City Council meeting.

The pink flamingos have arrived on the front lawn of the school central office building at the Norwichtown Green. "I've been flocked!" Dolliver said of the more than a dozen of flamingos that have taken up temporary residence at the school office.

The flamingos will appear all over Norwich through June 24 in a clever fundraiser for Norwich Youth and Family Services. If you agree to get "flocked," flamingo herders will bring them to your lawn and then you pay $30 to have them removed and sent on their way to another Norwich location. You can even suggest locations of willing future recipients.

The Norwich school office flamingos will move along the Norwichtown Green to the home of Joanne Philbrick on Elm Avenue.

If you want to be next, call Angelo Callis at (860) 823-3782, Jodi Vara (860) 425-5643 or Kay Eyberse (860) 823-3782.

Oh, and as for the Sunrise Rotary duck race, my duck did not win. But Sunrise Rotary raised about $10,000 in its first duck race festival and promises to do it again on the second Saturday in May, 2012.
