The Essex Library undertook its annual spring landscaping cleanup on May 24. The Board of Trustees, library-goers, and the Junior Friends of the Library volunteered their time to help lay out 14 square yards of mulch donated by CP Burdick and Son Oil, Connecticut River Dock and Dredge, and the Essex Garden Club. Notable volunteers from the Junior Friends of the Library were its 6th-grade founders Maria Pittsinger and McLaine Rutan. Here, Rutan, Carl Kaufmann, Pittsinger, Heidi Clark, and Eli Clark shovel mulch into wheelbarrows. Founded in fall 2010, the Junior Friends group accepts members from the 5th-grade and up and is currently working on several fundraising initiatives including a carnival and walkathon to take place this summer.
