The American Legion Veterans Housing Inc. (TALVHI) is getting closer and closer to it's goal of $750,000 for its "Home at Last" campaign.

Here's the latest from Avery Tillinghast:

People’s United Community Foundation’s $7,000.00 grant to the TALVHI Project for Homeless U.S. Veterans was graciously accepted by TALVHI Director President William Czmyr, Jr. of the Jewett City American Legion.  “We are most pleased with the generous support of local and regional banks in our area which as a group now totals $135,000.” he stated.

The TALVHI Project, first of its kind, is a national model for Veterans organizations throughout the nation.  “The Home At Last Capital Campaign now totals $335,819, which brings our efforts within $425,000 of attaining our goal” noted Czmyr.  The campaign will fund needs not included in the grants awarded to the project.  The list of unfunded needs include: apartment furnishings, a geo-thermal heating/cooling system, a memorial retaining wall, a new post kitchen and community room and removal of an adjacent apartment house.

Any person, company or organization which wishes to support the project may visit the website at

Established in 2007, the People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves.  With special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods, the funding priorities of the Foundation include: community development, youth development, and affordable housing.

Congrats!
