EuroBasket Women, Day Five
Howdy,
It was a tough day for Great Britain as it couldn't hold on to a late five-point lead and lost to Lithuania, 64-63, in Day Five at Poland.
Great Britain automatically got an 2012 Summer Olympic berth because its the host country, but wanted to make a good showing at EuroBasket to legitimize the team. It led Lithuania, 63-59, with three minutes, 15 seconds remaining in the game, but missed its final seven shots.
Johannah Leedham shot 4-of-12 and finished with 14 points, three assists and three steals for Great Britain (1-3).
Great Britain plays Turkey Saturday.
Thursday's big story was Belarus' 62-51 win over Russia. Russia was ranked second by FIBA after last fall's World Championships, but has already lost two of its four games. That's what happens when you've turned it over EIGHTY ONE times already.
(Think Russia wishes it had Ephiphanny Prince? Just wondering.)
Yelena Leuchanka from your 2010 Eastern Conference champion Atlanta Dream had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Belarus.
France, Spain and beloved Montenegro all had Thursday off and return to action today. Spain plays Latvia while France and Montenegro faceoff in the marquee game.
Vaya con dios....
