Press Release from North Guilford Congregational Church:

"Since 1814 the steeple of the North Guilford Congregational Church has been a beacon on historic Meeting House Hill in North Guilford, CT. Completed during the War of 1812, carpenters could look down on Long Island Sound and see British war ships sailing close to our Connecticut Shore. Ever since that time the steeple light has shone throughout the community. It has meant different things to different folks: a marker on the way home or a sentinel standing watch over loved ones buried in the cemetery across the lane. To others it may spark joyful memories of Christmas's gone by or a wedding day. For still others it represents a church that is "Welcome to All." Now this iconic steeple and tower are in need of major restoration and repair. Two of the columns in the tower need to be replaced and there is additional urgent restoration work necessary in the tower. Scaffolding is now up and work has begun. To see the scope of the work to be done visit our web site www.northguilford-ucc.org. Should you have questions you may contact Donna Criscenzo at 203-458- 8849 or Steve Van Der Maelen at 457-0143. To keep this important link to Guilford's past intact, we need your help. The cost of this work is well over $100,000. Our small congregation needs help in funding this project. We ask the wider Guilford community to please make a gift to NGCC, 159 Ledge Hill Rd, Guilford CT 06437. All donors will be recognized on a permanent commemoration displayregardless of gift size- which will be unveiled at a Celebration & Dedication event scheduled for October 15th 2011 at 2 pm. Thank you for your support."
