The seeds are delicious, the flowers beautiful and the joy they bring to sick children statewide is priceless.
"Sunflowers for Wishes," an event that benefits the state's Make a Wish chapter, is gearing up for its 8th annual run at Buttonwood Farm near the corner of Routes 165 and 201.
Come for the world-famous sunflower seed ice cream, come for a hayride through the acres of sunflowers or just come to take pictures of the flowers. You wouldn't be the only one.
But don't leave empty handed.
By buying a $5 bouquet of sunflowers, 100 percent of your money will go to towards funding a sick child's dream of Disney World, seeing a baseball game or going to Hawaii.
It's a sight to see: 15 acres of yellow sunflowers peeking above Connecticut farmland.
You'll have your chance to do any of the above beginning this Saturday, July 23, through Sunday, July 31. The farm and its stand, which serves up the ice cream, will be open all week until dusk.
Enjoy the beauty, enjoy the treats and enjoy giving.
