Howdy,
The Connecticut Sun and DeMya Walker parted ways Friday as the former waived the latter.
El Sol should be filling their vacancy shortly as rookie Jessica Breland tweeted that she's headed to Neon Uncasville.
"Just finish packing for Connecticut," Breland posted Friday. "Fly out tomorrow morning. Can't wait to meet my new teammates... :-)"
The Sun declined comment Friday.
Breland was drafted 14th overall (second round) by Minnesota this past April and traded to New York. The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 7.7 minutes in nine games with the Liberty and was released earlier this month.
Breland has already dealt with a lot in her young life. For those not familiar with her story, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma during the spring of 2009 and underwent chemotherapy for six months. She missed the entire 2009-10 season at North Carolina.
Breland returned last season as a redshirt senior and came back strong. She averaged 12.4 points and 7.1 rebounds, was an ACC All-Tournament first team pick, and helped the Tar Heels to the Sweet Sixteen.
Walker's departure makes one of the WNBA's youngest teams even younger. Seven of Connecticut's 11 players are 24-or-younger.
Asjha Jones (30), Kara Lawson (30), Jessica Moore (29) and Tan White (28) now pass for "old" on the Sun.
Vaya con dios….
