At least one of the New London courthouses is expected to be open today.

Power had been restored to the courthouse at 112 Broad St. as of mid-afternoon Monday. On Monday, the court was closed and New London area defendants who had been arrested over the weekend were arraigned at the Superior Court in Norwich.

The Huntington Street court in New London, where civil cases and major criminal cases are heard, also was without power Monday. By late afternoon, the power had been partially restored.

"If there's power tomorrow (Tuesday), we'll be open," said State's Attorney Michael L. Regan.

Department of Correction spokesman Brian Garnett said the state prison system weathered the storm well.

Some prisoners were moved out of low-lying buildings at the Janet S. York Correctional Institution on Saturday as a precaution, Garnett said. There was no storm damage and the prisoners were relocated by Monday morning.

A number of facilities lost their primary power due to the storm but were kept online by generator, he said.

"We were pretty much unscathed," he said. "We're pretty self-sufficient and did lots of planning."

No prisoners had to be transported to court Monday due to closures around the state, he said.
