During the days that followed the destruction and power outages of tropical storm Irene last week, Guilford's Nathanael Greene Community Center served as the town's main emergency shelter. The center's kitchen turned out about 2,000 hot meals for residents during that time, according to Kitchen Manager Larry Santamaria. Santamaria thanks his staff and many others for pitching in to help out during the crisis and adds he was glad to be able to provide hot meals (which I also understand were quite delicious) at a time when such a basic comfort was pretty hard to find.
