‘Pitching for Charity’ Nets $15K for Local Relief

On Sept. 14, the organizers of the Second Annual Pitching for Charity presented two $7,500 checks to Neighbor 2 Neighbor and Madison Food Pantry, for a total of $15,000 raised from a softball tournament held at the Surf Club.

“I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results,” said Pitching for Charity Committee Chair Ed Pellegrino. “Our sponsors, our advertisers, the real estate agents and the community really got behind this event to support these two wonderful organizations.

“This donation couldn’t come at a better time for Neighbor 2 Neighbor and the Food Pantry as their supplies are depleted after Irene,” Pellegrino added. “With the support of the entire community we are able to help them refill their shelves to benefit those in need in our community. That’s what Pitching for Charity is all about.”

“This represents a huge help to Neighbor 2 Neighbor,” N2N President Laurie Heflin, said of the donation. “Our clients are always so appreciative of the items we are able to provide.”

“This is so amazing,” said Margaret Diglio, Food Pantry coordinator. “We serve about 100 people every week and each week we have new people who are having trouble making their housing payment or health care and it’s a very humbling experience for them and we try to make it as friendly as possible.”

The day long softball tournament, held Aug. 13 at the Surf Club, was organized by the five major real estate companies in Madison – Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Page Taft, Prudential, William Pitt Sotheby’s and William Raveis and the Madison Chamber of Commerce.

The Pitching for Charity Committee has already scheduled the 3rd Annual Tournament for Aug. 11, 2012 at the Surf Club.
