Ok, so it's not the only factor to determine whether Wheeler High School stays open or closes, but the release of the results of a comprehensive, $10,000 feasibility study will undoubtedly play a major role.
At 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Shaw Media Center, the Capitol Region Education Council will present its findings from the long-awaited study. This topic is certainly a divisive one, so I expect a pretty good turnout on Tuesday.
A draft study was released in June. It showed that closing the school and sending students to Ledyard High School would save about $475,000. Nine schools in a 25-mile radius were asked whether they would accept 9 through 12th-grade Wheeler Students.
After The Day reported on the draft release, I received responses on both sides of the issue. The official results seem like they will help residents, who have the ultimate vote on the issue, make an informed decision.
